I saw this advertisement for rugs while walking around San Francisco:
It’s interesting, because the quote, “What dreams may come”, is a quote about death from Shakespeare’s Hamlet:
For in that sleep of death, what dreams may come
When we have shuffled off this mortal coil,
Must give us pause.
“Shuffled off this mortal coil” means to die. Hamlet decides not to commit suicide because it’s unknown what comes after death. By “what dreams may come” he appears to be referring to an unpleasant afterlife situation that makes ending his life (making his “quietus”) with a dagger (“bare bodkin”) less appealing.
Here is the grim scene with the quote at about 2:13:
I was really surprised when I saw the billboard. If anyone knows of something else the quote might be referring to, let me know in the comments below.
