Why is Starbucks Blocking Tech and News Websites?

It seems that Starbucks is blocking some tech and news websites. Here are some screenshots:

Update, July 24, 2014: Starbucks is moving to Google Fiber.

Here is a screenshot of the blocked gprolog.org website at a Starbucks:

I checked to see if the site was down by using a proxy. The site could be accesed via a proxy, but not directly through Starbucks’ wireless Internet connection:

Here is a site called packagist.org that is also blocked:

I tried accessing it through a proxy and it loaded when bypassing Starbucks’ Wi-Fi:

These are just a couple of blocked websites that I encountered.

UPDATE: Slate.me also appears to be blocked at Starbucks:

The redirect URLs only work when accessing them through a proxy:

How many more are there, and why are they blocked?
